Dr Yen brings a diverse international background and a thoughtful, well-rounded approach to general practice. Prior to medicine, he trained as a professional engineer, which continues to influence his careful, analytical and practical approach to clinical care.
With experience in both emergency medicine and general practice, Dr Yen is confident in managing a wide range of health concerns, from urgent presentations and minor injuries to complex chronic conditions.
Dr Yen has special interests in skin cancer medicine and is currently an MSc candidate in clinical Dermatology, aesthetic medicine, ADHD management and prescribing, persistent and chronic pain management, minor trauma and injury care, chronic disease management, DVA support and mental health care.
He is passionate about providing comprehensive, compassionate and personalised care, and enjoys working closely with patients and their families to support long-term health and wellbeing.

Dr Yen cares for patients of all ages across the full breadth of general practice at Summervale Medical in Fernvale, drawing on his emergency medicine and general practice background to support individuals and families across Lowood, the Brisbane Valley and the wider Ipswich region.
General Practice & Everyday Care
Day to day general practice for patients of all ages, covering illnesses and infections, injuries, prescriptions, referrals, results, medical certificates and general medical advice.
Preventive Health & Health Assessments
Routine health checks, heart and diabetes risk assessment, cholesterol and blood pressure reviews, national cancer screening, and Medicare health assessments including checks for patients aged 45 to 49 and 75 and over.
Chronic Disease Management
Ongoing care and GP Management Plans for diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart disease, asthma, COPD, thyroid conditions, arthritis and kidney disease, with Team Care Arrangements for allied health.
Chronic Pain Management
Assessment and long-term management of persistent and chronic pain, including back and neck pain, arthritis and joint pain, nerve pain, headaches and cancer related pain, with a focus on restoring function, reviewing medication and coordinating care with physiotherapy and pain specialists.
Children’s & Family Health
Newborn and baby checks, childhood immunisations, developmental and growth reviews, common childhood illnesses, asthma and eczema, and school and sports clearances.
Mental Health Care
Support for anxiety, depression, stress, burnout, grief and sleep difficulties, including Mental Health Treatment Plans, review appointments and referral to psychologists and other support services.
Immunisations & Travel Medicine
Routine and catch-up vaccinations for children and adults, influenza and COVID-19 vaccines, shingles and pneumococcal cover, plus travel health advice and destination-specific vaccination.
Lifestyle & Weight Management
Support with healthy and sustainable weight change, nutrition and activity, smoking cessation, sleep and alcohol, with a practical approach to long-term health goals.
Minor Trauma & Injury Care
Drawing on his emergency medicine experience, wound care and suturing, sprains, strains and fractures, burns, sporting injuries and other urgent presentations that don’t need a hospital.
Skin Cancer Medicine
Skin checks and dermoscopy, assessment of moles and changing spots, diagnosis and treatment of melanoma, basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), and management of sun-damaged skin.
Clinical Dermatology
Dr Yen is currently an MSc candidate in Clinical Dermatology, with an interest in eczema, psoriasis, acne, rashes, hair and nail conditions, and other common and complex skin concerns.
ADHD Management & Prescribing
Diagnosis support, ongoing management and prescribing for adults and adolescents with ADHD, including reviews, monitoring and coordination with psychiatrists and psychologists.
DVA Support for Veterans
Care for Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) White and Gold Card holders, including Veterans’ Health Check, coordinated care planning, referrals and allied health arrangements.
Aesthetic Medicine
Consultation and assessment in cosmetic and aesthetic medicine, with an emphasis on realistic expectations, skin health and evidence-based, medically supervised care.
